"Mr Vickers for E. Ludlow Esqr... Mr Hill having received a retainer from you on behalf of Mr Ludlow with Instructions to Canvas the Burgesses of Bridgnorth in this City & Neighbourhood his Clerk and two Assistants going round to Solicit the Voters... Clerk 2l a day & Assistants 1l each."
The correspondence to Daniel Burges is mostly addressed to the Council House, Bristol. Clearly Daniel Burges and Henry Vickers acted as Ludlow's agents and paid his election expences (which seems to have involved entertaining large numbers of the Bridgnorth electorate) and arranging for Ludlow to have a permanent representative in the town, a local solicitor called Glecks.
