135. Ruskin (John, author, artist & social reformer, 1819-1900) Autograph Letter signed to Mr Stronach, 2½pp., 8vo, Brantwood, Coniston, 22nd January 1873, "I am greatly obliged by your letter, and would most willingly give double the prices named in your letter for these drawings by your uncle, were they now obtainable. I could not answer your long letter - for I could not read it. You do not conceive how little time I have for reading anything. I noticed at the close of it that you said you were pleased that I cared to know your opinions - but - my dear sir - I care to know them just as much - & just as little, as a physician to know his patients symptoms - would you not think it strange if you heard of a particular writing to him that he was proud he cared to know them. Well, you have learned, for I read this much, a great deal of good from Carlyle", removed from an album, folds, margins slightly foxed.
