Sir Maurice Gwyer served in many capacities on government commissions and ministries. In 1926 he became Treasury solicitor and King’s proctor and in 1929 became British representative at the conference on the operation of dominion legislation which drafted what became the Statute of Westminster, a title he suggested. Gwyer was appointed Chief Justice of India in 1937 and retired in 1943.
